Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are injectable gels used to enhance facial features and replace volume loss from aging.
How dermal fillers work
Dermal fillers are a broad category of injectable solutions that are used to replace volume loss from aging. As we age, our facial fat pads shrink. When we loose fat, our skin becomes more lax, and sagging results. A fuller face is often associated with youth and vitality. By using dermal filler to supplement the fat loss incurred over time, a more youthful appearance can be restored.
In addition to replacing volume, dermal filler can be used to enhance facial features such as your jawline, cheeks, chin, nose, or lips.
A full facial assessment is necessary for all dermal filler consultations. While a patient may feel they need a specific area injected, it may be that a more natural result is obtained by injecting multiple, related areas, and not the area of concern. Dr. Tyler is happy to offer facial assessments and full facial rejuvenation with dermal filler.
Dermal fillers primarily consist of varying thicknesses of hyaluronic acid gel. Thicker gels are used to provide support and volume, while less viscous gels can be used to soften fine lines and hydrate the tissues. In addition to HA fillers, there is Radiesse®, a biostimulating filler. Not only does Radiesse® provide volume for cheeks and jawlines, but it also stimulates your body to produce collagen. In it's manufactured form, Radiesse® is ideal for contouring and adding definition to facial structure. When blended at varying concentrations, it can be used to fill fine lines or even to rejuvenate the skin through it's collagen stimulating effect.
Different fillers are for different treatments, so choosing the correct filler for your aesthetic concern is critical. Limelight Medical Aesthetics currently carries Radiesse and the premium RHA and Restalyne lines.
Limelight Medical Aesthetics uses dermal filler to rejuvenate and create natural results. Dr. Tyler will always treat judiciously and never overfill. Extreme filler techniques do not align with his practice and will not be performed. An ideal filler treatment leaves you looking refreshed and rejuvenated, without it being obvious what was done.
Lip Filler
Lip filler is one of the most requested treatments in the aesthetic industry. Using hyaluronic acid fillers, the lips can be volumized, hydrated, and enhanced.
At Limelight, Dr. Tyler does a thorough assessment of your anatomy and your goals and concerns. Each patient is different in these aspects, so careful consideration is needed to make sure you get the result you desire.
Carrying a range of fillers, Dr. Tyler can customize the treatment to provide structure and enhancement, volume and softness, or softness and hydration.
When treating lips, it is also important to address the perioral area, providing a more natural, complete look.
If you have had filler in the past, Dr. Tyler may recommend dissolving misplaced or migrated filler before your treatment. While there is an additional cost and it delays your treatment, the outcome is optimal.

Chin and Jawline Filler
Chin and jawline augmentation are essential for facial balancing. Oftentimes, these areas are neglected, when if they are treated, and really be the finishing touch to a facial rejuvenation.
A variety of products are used to enhance the lower third of the face. As the chin is dynamic, a mix of stiff filler (for improved projection) and flexible filler (for smoothing and harmonizing) are needed. Techniques are also varied for chin augmentation. Dr. Tyler uses a combination of needle and cannula to provide a natural result.
Jawline augmentation also utilizes a variety of filler products. To provide definition, more robust filler are used here. Needle injection is used to enhance the posterior jaw, while cannula is used to lengthen and define the jawline and angle.
Consider chin and jawline filler if you have a recessed chin, soft jawline or minor jowling. This is also a corner stone treatment in masculinizing or feminizing the face. Masculinizing the lower face involves widening the posterior jaw as well as the chin. Feminizing this area involves lengthening and narrowing the chin and jawline.

Under Eye Filler
The framing for the windows to your soul can oftentimes require some maintenance. Under eye filler, aka tear trough filler, is a great way to brighten and lift the hollows that develop as we age.
For some, the tear trough ligament is tightly adhered to the underlying bone. As volume is lost in the under eye, a hollowing can develop, leading to shadows and a tired appearance.
Placing small amounts of filler (approx 0.5 ml) under the tear trough ligament can lift the under eye, alleviating the shadow and replacing lost volume; resulting in a more youthful, well-rested appearance.
While this treatment can benefit most under eye concerns, there are patients that may be left wanting. Patients with under eye bags, which is oftentimes fat pad herniation, hyperpigmentation, which is often genetic and linked to ethnic background, and those with excess skin, are not ideal candidates.
Dr. Tyler may recommend cheek filler before tear trough filler. Oftentimes, the tear trough shadowing becomes more prominent with medial cheek volume loss and resulting skin laxity. Replacing this volume may provide significant correction without directly treating the under eye.

Cheek Filler
As we age, we loose fat and bone in our cheeks. This causes our skin to move down and forward, creating folds and hollows.
Cheek filler helps to replace lost volume, restoring contour and definition associated with youth. While filler does not lift tissue, the replaced volume can give the appearance of lift and lessen nasolabial folds and under eye hollows.
Cheek filler can be crafted to masculinize or feminize a face. When placed more laterally, a more feminine cheek is crafted. When focused anteriorly, a more masculine cheek is created.
The majority of cheek filler is placed on the cheek bone, under the muscles. This lessens the chance of filler migration, and also prevents common signs of filler such as chipmunk cheeks. Sometimes, filler is needed in the deeper fat pads to add a softness to the cheek, that supraperiosteal injections can’t provide. Different fillers are used for each injection target to give a natural, rejuvenated appearance.

Temple Filler
Until recently, temple hollows were often ignored in facial aesthetics. But now we frequently replace the volume loss in this area, as it is incredibly impactful in providing a more youthful, balanced appearance. Filling the temples smooths the transition from the cheek bone to the forehead, treating was has been coined “peanut head”. It can also provide minor lift to the brow.
As with many filler techniques, there are differences in aesthetic goals when wanting a more masculine or feminine appearance. A more masculine temples is flat to slightly convex. While a feminine temples is flat to slightly concave.

Filler for fine lines
Sometimes there are pesky lines that need to blurred. Lines around the mouth and eyes are often due to loss of firmness in the skin. Using filler here can add firmness and lessen the appearance of lines created with facial expression.
Oftentimes, these fine lines are a symptom of volume loss and tissue laxity elsewhere in the face. By lifting the cheeks and replacing volume, marionette and accordion lines improve without having to directly fill them with filler. Similarly, fine lines around the eyes can be improved by cheek or temple filler.
If facial volume is not the etiology of the lines, directly placing filler in and around the line can be a great option. There are very specific fillers made for this. They are injected very superficially, plumping the skin and providing support to the tissue around the line.
Injection of these areas requires serial lines of filler, injected with a small needle into the dermis. Oftentimes, because of so many needle pokes in the superficial layer, there is bleeding and swelling. But once complete, there is an immediate improvement that will continue to improve over the next 2 weeks as the filler integrates into the tissue and the area heals.
